In a relief to gas consumers, GAIL Gas Limited has reduced the prices of PNG and CNG. This decision follows the reduction in pipeline charges implemented in several states, making domestic and vehicle fuels cheaper.
Before the start of the new year, there's some good news for gas consumers. Public sector gas company GAIL Gas Limited has decided to reduce the prices of piped natural gas (PNG) used in domestic kitchens and compressed natural gas (CNG) used in vehicles. This decision will directly benefit both ordinary families and motorists.
The company announced that the price of PNG has been reduced by one rupee per standard cubic meter and CNG by one rupee per kilogram.
The new rates came into effect on Thursday. This relief comes at a time when people were hoping for lower fuel costs amid rising inflation.
GAIL Gas Limited is a wholly-owned subsidiary of the country's largest public sector company, GAIL India Limited. According to the company, this decision was made following recent changes in natural gas pipeline tariffs. The new regulations have reduced the cost of gas transportation, which is being passed directly to consumers.
The new prices have come into effect in states like Uttar Pradesh, Karnataka, Madhya Pradesh, Haryana, Uttarakhand, Jharkhand, Chhattisgarh, Rajasthan, and Odisha. Millions of households and thousands of CNG vehicle owners in these states will now see some relief each month.
A senior GAIL official said that the policies of the Petroleum Ministry and gas regulator PNGRB are aimed at making gas affordable and expanding its reach. Recently, a new and simplified system of pipeline tariffs was implemented, making gas supply affordable and easy.

Prior to GAIL, Indraprastha Gas Limited and several other city gas companies operating in Delhi-NCR have also reduced PNG and CNG prices. This clearly indicates that further relief may be on the way for natural gas consumers.
